Dr. Andrew Pasternak

Dr. Andrew Pasternak is a board certified family physician with an interest in sports medicine. While an avid fan of teams around Detroit while growing up, physical fitness was not foremost on his mind. Dr. Pasternak began to realize that he needed to get into shape after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament in medical school. In his first 5 K, he had to walk most of the last mile just to finish. Later, along with his wife, he finished dead last in the Wisconsin State Games winter quadrathelon (but we finished). Since moving to Reno, he has become more serious about exercise and has now finished the Death Ride, skied the Great Ski Race 6 times and has run the Boston Marathon with his wife. By incorporating exercise into his regular lifestyle, he has come to personally realize both the physical and mental benefits exercise can provide.

Dr. Jeff Angermann

Jeff Angermann is a post-doctoral research fellow at the University of Nevada School of Medicine. His research program at UNSOM is in the field of vascular smooth muscle physiology, and specifically addresses the pharmacology and role of smooth muscle ion channels in pulmonary hypertension and hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction. He is an ex-professional road cyclist, a five-time collegiate all-American athlete and four-time National Champion in both road and mountain disciplines. His passion for cycling carries through to coaching: He has attained the highest level of coaching certification for cycling (USCF elite level; one of fewer than 100 nationwide) and currently coaches both road and mountain cyclists. Dr. Angermann is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine, the American Heart Association, the American Physiology Society, and the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology.
